a foot to stand on.

i'm making new cups . . . hand building the cup and using my new best friend, the kick wheel, to trim the foot. this is much harder than it sounds, as it is IMPOSSIBLE to center something that is OFF CENTERED to begin with, but i am having much fun doing something new. trying as it may be (yes, there have been naughty words cried out, sweat dripping from my face, and cups flying off the wheel), i think i am gaining a new appreciation for the wheel. stay tuned for my new series of goofy footed cups . . .

cups. cups. cups.

i am doing 2 cup shows + a gravy boat show in november. don't ask me why. cups just might be my least favorite thing to make. i don't enjoy dealing with a handle or with a rim that has to be good enough for someone to put their mouth on. but, as always, it is a good way to push me into making things i usually wouldn't make. and though i don't "like" doing it, i do like having new work to look at.

friday field trip (from the sketch book).

from bed in emeryville, ca
august 2010

anyone who knows me, knows i am highly un-technologically inclined. i was the last person on the block to get a cell phone. the last person i know to get a computer. the last person to get a laptop and do away with dial-up, etc . . . so when my husband presented me with an iPad last week, i wasn't sure what i was going to do with it, though it is certainly VERY cute. then yesterday i discovered sketchbook pro. and now i think i am in love. this is the best thing i have learned in years (though still learning, as it's only been a day).

i am in a cup show this november, so cups are on my mind.
