ladies' home journal.

the memorial quilt that i made out of my dad's shirts is featured in the may 2011 issue of ladies' home journal. there are actually some great articles in this issue. my original story about how this quilt came to be, and directions on how to make one yourself, is in this wonderful book creating a meaningful home. here are a few photos from that book . . .

Beautiful! I have been thinking for some time to make a lap quilt with my dad's clothes. Unfortunately I am a gal who can't sew a button or when I was younger the sewing teacher beg me to have my mom find me another class. I will check out the book. Thanks!! xo

What a great memorial for your father and contrats on the feature. I recently uncovered an old levi quilt I never finished from back in the 1970s and it's fun to think who might have worn the levis, what stories they could tell.

This looks very appealing, congratulations... I once asked my mother for my late fathers shirts, but she didn´t want to part with them then - this comes as a reminder to ask again...

Very, very nice! What a perfect tribute to your father. The colors and plaids are so identifiable, it's as if he were right there. I wish I had kept more of my father's clothing.

Simply beautiful story and quilt, Rae! I have a pile of my mom's shirts, what a wonderful way to remember her. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
